GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Capabilities
TurboMax Engine
The base TurboMax engine comes standard on the Pro, SLE, and Elevation trim levels of the 2025 Sierra 1500, delivering 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It offers a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 pounds when combined with the two-door regular cab, rear-wheel drive, and the long cargo bed. With nearly eight feet of length in the bed and great hauling power, this configuration is ideal for drivers on a budget.
5.3L Gas Engine
The Sierra 1500 Pro, SLE, and Elevation can also be equipped with a more powerful 5.3-liter gas engine with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, which comes standard on the SLT and Denali models. When combined with the double cab, rear-wheel drive, standard bed, Max Trailering Package, and 18- or 20-inch wheels and tires, it ups the maximum towing capacity to 11,200 pounds, giving you the flexibility to haul nearly an additional ton of weight.
The Max Trailering Package includes an automatic locking rear differential, a handling/trailering suspension package, trailer brake controller, and more to enhance your pickup’s ability to haul heavy loads.
6.2L V8 Engine
For maximum gasoline power, the 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It’s standard on the Denali Ultimate trim, and is available for the SLT, AT4, Denali, and AT4X. To take advantage of its maximum towing capacity of 13,000 pounds, you’ll need to choose either the short or standard bed, crew cab, four-wheel drive, Max Trailering Package, and 20-inch wheels and tires.
Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel Engine
The AT4 and AT4X models come standard with the Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine, which is optionally available for the SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, generating 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. It unlocks the highest possible towing capacity of the 2025 Sierra 1500, rated for 13,200 pounds when configured with the double cab, rear-wheel drive, standard bed, Max Trailering Package, and 20-inch wheels and tires, giving you the power to haul just about anything.
